Hi Guys, It’s Alex. Today is a big day—I’m officially launching my first song!
I wrote “I Wanted to Walk” after going to a Blake Shelton concert that inspired me to share my story. Music has always been a way for me to express myself, and the lyrics came so naturally as I thought about my journey.
I want to give a huge thank you to the PONI Lab for including me in the robotic walking clinical trial and to Trexo Robotics for giving me the ability to walk and make my dreams come true. 💜
When I was born, doctors didn’t give me a great outlook, but my family never stopped fighting for me. They did everything they could to help me get stronger. Over time, I built up my strength, and with the help of the Trexo robotic walking device, I was able to take independent steps—and not just a few, but big distances!
Now, I walk as much as I want—down the street, around my neighborhood, at the mall, and in the park. It has completely changed my world. My chronic knee pain is gone, my health has improved, and I’ve gone from always being in a wheelchair to being up on my feet!
That’s why I wrote this song—because walking has changed my life, and I wanted to share my story. I hope you love it as much as I loved creating it!
I wanted to Walk Lyrics
Music by Genevieve Hunter 🎶
When I was born
They said it would be hard
So many surgeries
That I would be scarred.
When I was young
They said it would be tough
School and life they said
It would be rough.
Chorus
I should have walked
I should have run
I should be playing in the sun
I want to live
I want to dance
I want a chance
Like everyone else.
But I went to school
And I learned how to live
Learned how to walk –  in my own way
I went to the gym
And I learned how to move
I learned how to dance –  in my own way
And now today
They say that I’m tough
School was great and
I know I’m enough
How I was made
Is how I should be seen
Now I can live
How I want to be.
Chorus
And now I Â walk
And now I Â run
And now I’m playing in the sun
I’ve learned to live
I’ve learned to dance
I have a chance
Like everyone else.
