Trexo Robotics invited me to be their guest at the AACPDM(American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine) Conference held in Chicago. They wanted me to share my personal journey and experiences. The entire trip was an adventure and lots of fun!
The flight from Calgary to Chicago was great. However, there was a hiccup when the airline left my wheelchair at the departure gate. This meant that my wheelchair didn’t arrive in Chicago with me but after 24 hours, they managed to deliver it. The timing was so close! I had to be at the conference venue by 5pm, and my wheelchair was delivered to our hotel at 4:55pm. With just minutes to spare, we made our way down two blocks to reach the conference.

Upon arrival, the team at Trexo had a demo device ready for me. It fit me perfectly! I was happy to walk around using the Trexo. It gave me the opportunity to chat with attendees and share how the Trexo has positively impacted my life. Over three days, I took more than 10,000 steps with it!
When the conference sessions ended each day, we explored the city of Chicago. Being in the Magnificent Mile area was a great location. We visited iconic spots like The Bean, The Navy Pier, the American Girl store, the world’s largest Starbucks, the Lego store, Caffe Oliva, and dined at Labriola Restaurant, which served really good food.
One of the highlights for me was chatting with all the people at the conference. There were doctors and physiotherapists from all over the world. They were genuinely interested in how the Trexo has been beneficial for me and the difference walking has made in various aspects of my life. I even had the chance to try walking backward using the Trexo, something I hadn’t done before. I’m would like to try this with my own pink Trexo when I get back home.
We also tested my speed at the conference, and I managed a record of 55 steps per minute, compared to my usual 35 steps at home. To top it all off, I submitted my photo in a contest and secured second place! They also presented me with a certificate for attending the conference.
It was a great trip and I cannot wait to see where my journey with Trexo leads me next!
